BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The City of Brownsville is seeking community input on the preparation of its new “Parks, Health, and Recreation Master Plan.” The City is accepting feedback from the community both on-line and via in-person public meetings. The Master Plan will shape the future of local parks, trails and recreational facilities, while advancing health and wellness programs over the next five to 10 years.

Brownsville’s park system boasts more than 1,000 acres of parkland and includes 44 parks, more than 47 miles of trails, and five key recreation, senior, and community centers. The City plans to ensure access to well-maintained green spaces that will encourage physical activity, support mental well-being, and provide safe spaces for families to gather and thrive through the master plan’s development.

“The Parks, Health, and Recreation Master Plan is a vital investment in the future of our community,” said John Cowen, Jr. Brownsville City Mayor. “Through this plan, we want to ensure that our facilities continue to welcome our community, cater to the growing needs of our residents, and further enhance the overall quality of life in Brownsville.”

“We are committed to making the Parks, Health and Recreation Master Plan a success in our community,” said Helen Ramirez,ICMA-CM, AICP, Brownsville City Manager. “We can ensure that success is achieved with the direct feedback from our residents. The on-line survey will help us hear directly from our community. And, anyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a Playstation 5!”

Residents, community leaders, business partners, and visitors can complete the on-line survey at: Home | Beyond Green:Brownsville’s Next Generation of Parks & Wellness. The survey is crucial for understanding community needs and preferences and will remain completely anonymous. Residents are asked to complete one survey per person to ensure

the accuracy and fairness of the feedback. On this webpage, residents will also find an Event Calendar marking the Public Meetings, which start Monday, April 7th at 6:00PM at Cabler Park, located at 550 Burnett Road, in Brownsville.

The survey includes questions such as:
