BROWNSVILLE, Texas – City of Brownsville City Manager, Helen Ramirez, AICP, is proud to announce Police Chief Felix Sauceda has been named Assistant City Manager/Police Chief. Chief Sauceda assumes his new role effective immediately. Having served the City for more than 30 years, Chief Sauceda will take on a dual role both as Assistant City Manager and Police Chief.

His leadership will undoubtedly enhance the services we provide our community, not only within public safety, but within other key departments.”

This new role allows me to further serve our great City and its wonderful residents.”
Chief Sauceda will support the City Manager while assisting with the development and implementation of long-and-short-range strategic plans and initiatives. He will also lead operational departments and functional components within the City’s overarching goals and objectives.
Chief Felix Sauceda is a long-serving public servant with a career spanning 31 years. He has been serving as the Chief of Police for the Brownsville Police Department since April 1, 2019. On December 20, 2022, he received a Congressional Recognition Certificate in honor and appreciation for his service to the community of Brownsville.
Over the years, Chief Sauceda climbed the ranks, becoming a Sergeant in 2008, where he supervised the patrol division, special investigative unit, property, and evidence division, and acted as jail administrator. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2016, serving as shift commander before being assigned to Administrative Lieutenant attached to the Commander’s Office.
Chief Sauceda’s educational achievements are noteworthy. He earned a Master of Science in Police Administration from the University of Texas at Pan American (2006), a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at Brownsville (2001) and is a proud graduate of Glady’s Porter High School (1991). Additionally, he is a Bill Blackwood Leadership Command College Graduate, holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, is an Executive Board Member for the Texas Police Association (TPA) and Texas Anti-Gang (TAG) Association, has more than 8,000 in-service training hours, is FEMA Pro Series Certified, is a State Certified Police Instructor, and FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) certificate recipient.
This dual role for Chief Sauceda underscores the City of Brownsville’s commitment to efficient governance, community policing, public safety, and service to its community.
