BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The City of Brownsville, Honorable Mayor John Cowen, Jr., and Interim City Manager, Alan Guard, CGFO, hosted the inaugural One City Summit, bringing together leaders from education, industry, housing, government, and community organizations to share ideas, highlight progress, and strengthen collaboration aimed at advancing the City’s future.
“Brownsville is a City built on collaboration and opportunity,” said Mayor John Cowen Jr., City of Brownsville. “By bringing leaders from across industries and institutions together, we are strengthening the partnerships that help drive innovation, job creation, and economic growth. When we work together as One City, we position Brownsville as a place where ideas thrive, and possibilities become reality.”
The summit was led by Guard, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between the City and its regional partners.
“These types of meetings allow leaders and organizations to come together and think about how we can help each othermove things forward better and faster,” Guard said. “When we align our efforts, it leads to more jobs, better paying jobs, improved housing opportunities, and stronger educational outcomes for our community.”
Participants included representatives from local institutions, businesses, and organizations such as SpaceX, Port of Brownsville, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Texas Southmost College, Brownsville Independent SchoolDistrict, Cameron Count, Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, and Greater Brownsville EDC. Discussionsfocused on economic development, workforce development, housing expansion, education, and innovation.
The One City Summit marks the beginning of an ongoing effort to bring stakeholders together to strengthen collaboration and maintain momentum as Brownsville continues to grow.
