Alamo, Texas — The City of Alamo continues to make its mark in the Rio Grande Valley, not only through steady growth and development but also through statewide recognition for excellence in communication. The City of Alamo’s Communications Team earned an impressive eight awards at the Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers & Advisors (TATOA), including four first-place honors — a historic achievement for the department.
The team’s first-place wins include the City Pulse Series, Editing – Commissioner AJ Garcia’s State of the City 2024 on Economic Development, Energy Conservation – Powering Progress, and Profile of an Individual – Mayor Pro Tem Roel Moreno, State of the City 2024 “Infrastructure Video.” Additional awards included two second-place and two third-place recognitions for projects such as Alamo Alerts Series and City Pulse – Parks & Recreation Video.
Each award represents hours of dedication in storytelling, filming, and editing — efforts that help keep residents informed, inspired, and connected. “Hard work pays off,” the department stated, expressing gratitude to the community for its continued support and confidence in the city’s mission to communicate with transparency and creativity.
This success reflects the broader growth and development that define the City of Alamo. Located in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley, Alamo was first laid out as a townsite around 1909 and officially incorporated as a city on May 12, 1924.
According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Alamo had a population of 19,493. Current 2025 estimates place that number at approximately 20,951, demonstrating a steady annual growth rate between 1.0 and 1.2 percent. This consistent rise mirrors the region’s expanding economy and growing residential appeal.
Agriculture remains one of Alamo’s cornerstone industries, with the fertile lands of the Valley supporting citrus groves and vegetable farming. However, the city’s proximity to major transportation corridors has also fueled retail expansion and suburban development, diversifying the local economy.
From its agricultural roots to its modern communications achievements, Alamo continues the progress that has defined it for over a century. The city’s ongoing growth — both in population and recognition — reflects a community united by hard work, innovation, and pride in its heritage.
