LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo, along with District 6 Council Member, Dr. Marte Martinez, broke ground on the Springfield Extension Project (Phase 3). This is the third and last phase of the Springfield Avenue Extension project that focuses on extending Springfield Avenue from Divine Mercy Park north to Shiloh Drive, successfully connecting central and north Laredo. This project will not only ease traffic congestion, additionally, it will provide safe and accessible mobility to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. The third phase consists of building a road with 5 lanes, including left and right turn lanes.

The construction also includes water and sewer lines, storm drainage structures, street lighting, and sidewalks, all in accordance with the Viva Laredo Comprehensive Plan.

The extension project will cost $4 million dollars. On July 26, 2021, City Council authorized an Interlocal Agreement between the Webb County/City of Laredo Regional Mobility Authority for this project, including a $2 million dollar contribution towards the development cost.  Estimated completion time for this project is 240 days.
