The RGV Hispanic Chamber recently became a Partner of the U.S. Census 2020. “It is crucial that the Valley gets a complete count of its’ residents in order to be able to receive their fair share of government monies” stated Cynthia M. Sakulenzki, Pres/CEO of the RGV Hispanic Chamber. “We want to make sure that the word gets out to all the people of the Valley as to how important everyone counts. Everyone’s information is kept confidential. By law, the Census information cannot be shared with the immigration enforcement agencies, law enforcement agencies or allow it to be used to determine your eligibility for government benefits”. Sakulenzki added.

The U.S. Constitution requires a census every 10 years  The census covers the entire country.  After each census, the state officials use the results to redraw the boundaries of their congressional and state legislative districts, adapting to population shifts. Census data also determines how more than $675 billion are spent, supporting our state, country and community’s vital programs.

Local residents can use the census to support community initiatives involving legislation, quality-of-life, and consumer advocacy.  Local Governments use the census for public safety and emergency preparedness.  Businesses use the census data to decide where to build factories, offices, and stores, which create jobs.  Real Estate developers use the census to build new homes and revitalize old neighborhoods.
