Mission will light the city blue in honor of fallen police hero

Mission, TX- One year later, the loss of Corporal Jose Luis “Speedy” Espericueta Jr. remains profound for the City of Mission and the Mission Police Department. On June 20, 2019, Cpl. Espericueta made the ultimate sacrifice while performing his duty to serve and protect. He was struck by gunfire while responding to a call for service.
The public is invited to join the Mission Police Department for a celebration of life service that will be held in Cpl. Espericueta’s honor on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 8:05 p.m. The Mission Police Department is asking those who plan to attend to help them light the city blue by covering their headlights with blue painter’s tape. Because of COVID-19, restrictions will be in place at the Mission Event Center for the police tribute.
For everyone’s safety:
· Participants are asked to remain in their vehicle throughout the service
· The entrance will be closed at 7:55 p.m. to minimize contact
· All guests are asked to wear a face covering if they need to step out of their vehicle
· Two candles will be provided for each vehicle attending the event. Patrons should NOT bring their own candles.
