The City of McAllen is hosting a free, outdoor walking event to celebrate winning for the fifth year in a row the annual It’s Time It’s Time Texas! Community Challenge.  The City of McAllen earned the most points in the Large City category – and the most points statewide of any municipality.

This event will continue the initiatives established by McAllen’s Mayor’s Wellness Council, to encourage the community to move and exercise throughout the year for better health and peace of mind.

For this Victory Lap, participants can walk, run, bike or skate their way to healthy! Strollers, pets and kids of all ages welcome and the first 100 participants receive a free t-shirt.  Additionally, healthy snacks, fruit, waters, and free health screenings will be offered and four  new bicycles and fitness items will be raffled.

“We want people to be able to get the health benefits of moving, in a fun environment where the community encourages each other,” said Mayor Villalobos.  “It should be a really fun, yet purposeful exercise session to help get our McAllen residents moving to a healthy lifestyle throughout the year.”

The event is being coordinated as part of the City of McAllen’s Mayor’s Wellness Council and hopes to continue to host free, community exercise events throughout the year.
