PHARR – In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, hundreds of community members gathered to enjoy a night of music and dance during the Pharr- San Juan- Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) 3rd Annual Tradiciones Mexicanas on October 3, 2024, at the PSJA Stadium.
Organized by the PSJA Fine Arts Department, the annual concert supports the district’s mission to promote pride in multicultural heritage within the PSJA community. The event featured live performances from high school Mariachi, Folklorico, and Conjunto groups, along with a special guest performance by “Nuestra Raices,” the parent-led Folklorico group formed through the PSJA Parental Engagement Program.
“Our concert is just one of many ways we honor Hispanic Heritage Month at PSJA,” said Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias. “We deeply appreciate our Fine Arts Department for instilling pride in our students’ multicultural heritage through mariachi, folklorico, and conjunto music. I am incredibly proud of both the students and directors for their exceptional performances.”
The PSJA ISD Fine Arts Director Jon Taylor closed the evening with words of appreciation.
“From the vibrant dances to the beautiful music, tonight we have truly experienced the heart and soul of Mexico’s rich culture traditions. Each performance was a celebration of the heritage that has been passed down through generations. We are so grateful to have shared this evening with you. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month tonight’s performances remind us of honoring and preserving our roots.”
PSJA students have access to a high-quality fine arts education in art, dance, music, and theatre from pre-kindergarten through graduation.
