HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge intercepted $344,000 worth of alleged fentanyl along with 2,873 Xanax pills.

“It is vital to the safety of our officers that we are able to identify what type of narcotic we are dealing with, as a small amount of fentanyl can be fatal,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On November 5, 2022, CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a black Ford Expedition making entry from Mexico. The vehicle was selected for inspection where physical examination resulted in the extraction of 22 packages weighing 14.72 pounds (6.68kg) of alleged fentanyl concealed within the vehicle, and four packages containing a total of 2,873 Xanax pills, which are a controlled substance.
