CBP Officers Seize over $550K in Cocaine

HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge intercepted $576,900 worth of alleged cocaine. 

“Our CBP officers continue to rely on their experience and all available tools and resources to thwart smuggling attempts at our ports of entry,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On May 25, 2022, CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a white Chevrolet SUV making entry from Mexico driven by a 36-year-old Mexican male and a 30-year-old Mexican male passenger. The vehicle was selected for inspection utilizing non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment. After physically inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered 29 packages weighing 74.82 pounds (33.94kg) of alleged cocaine concealed within the vehicle.

CBP OFO arrested the individuals, seized the narcotics and vehicle, and the case remain under investigation by special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI).
