RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Tuesday that sophomore Brownsville Veterans Memorial alum Max Carmona, sophomore Alexandrea Hurst, and freshman Tamara Woodley of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s and women’s track & field teams are WAC Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their efforts at Texas A&M’s Ted Nelson Invitational on Friday.
Carmona recorded the fifth-fastest 800-meter run in program history, placing second with a time of 1:53.95. He also competed in the 4×400-meter relay, finishing 12th with a time of 3:19.61, which is currently best in the WAC.
Hurst shattered the program and meet records to win the shot put with a throw of 15.61 meters, the best in the WAC this season. She also placed seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 16.34 meters, the third-best in the WAC this season.
In her collegiate debut, Woodley recorded the 10th-fastest 400-meter dash in program history, coming in at a WAC-best 57.61 seconds, to finish 11th. Woodley also competed in the 4×400-meter relay, placing eighth with a time of 3:57.03, the best in the WAC this season.
UTRGV is back in action on Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational.
