RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Tuesday that sophomore Brownsville Veterans Memorial alum Max Carmona of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s track & field teams is a WAC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Houston Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Carmona helped break the program record in the distance medley relay with a first-place time of 10:09.31, the best in the WAC and 57th in the nation.
Carmona also recorded the fourth-fastest 800-meter run in program history with a third-place time of 1:53.69, the best in the WAC this season.
UTRGV is back in action on Feb. 14 at Houston’s Howie Ryan Invitational and Feb. 14-15 at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
