‘Can You Dig It’ celebrates construction of new UTRGV Academic Building

WHAT: Celebration to kick off new construction project

WHEN: Noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22

WHERE: East side of Main Building, West University Boulevard, Brownsville Campus

BACKGROUND: Students, faculty, staff and the community are invited to attend a festive midday event to mark the beginning of construction of the Academic Building.

  • Attendees will be encouraged to sign a structural beam to be used in the construction of the new building.
  • Live musical entertainment will be provided by UTRGV music students.
  • Lunch will be available for purchase from student organizations.
  • Parking will be available across University Boulevard from Main Building.

 The Academic Building on the Brownsville Campus will play a critical role in helping to provide much-needed classroom space. Located next to Main, on the circular drive, the $54 million facility includes 102,551 square feet of space and will consist of two buildings, each three stories, arranged to create a courtyard reflecting the campus architecture.

 The facility will support general academics, music instruction and recitals and science teaching labs, and will provide flexible student collaboration and study space.
