BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Camp RIO, an award-winning outdoor camp, will officially unveil its brand-new High Ropes Adventure Course with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 12, at 4:30 p.m. The campsite addition, made possible through a generous Quality of Life grant from the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC), offers participants a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience the thrill of climbing, rappelling, and soaring through the sky on dual 500-foot zip lines.
The event will mark a major milestone in Camp RIO’s mission to provide outdoor educational programming, leadership development, and personal growth opportunities for students, families, and community members. Through its Quality of Life Projects, BCIC invests in initiatives that enrich the community’s cultural, recreational, and aesthetic attributes.

“Camp RIO has always been a place where children and families can explore the outdoors, challenge themselves, and discover their strengths,” said Nancy Mance, Director of Camp RIO. “This new High Ropes Adventure Course elevates that mission – literally – giving our community the chance to push their limits, work together, and build confidence in a safe and unforgettable environment.”
While the ribbon cutting takes place on Friday, September 12, the Adventure Course officially opens to the public on Saturday, September 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Beyond the new rope course, Camp RIO offers families a full outdoor adventure experience with passes to activities and unique programming.
