McALLEN, Texas – McAllen Shines announced that Camp McAllen is its newest Champion, celebrating the 20-acrepark’s fast-growing impact on families throughout the Rio Grande Valley. In a first for the program, the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department will receive the honor, marking the department as the inaugural City of McAllen team to earn thisdistinction.

Nestled along 23rd Street, Camp McAllen has redefined outdoor recreation for thousands of local families by offering a safe, clean, scenic, and fun destination to reconnect with nature. Visitors enjoy kayak and fishing docks, a shaded gazebo perfect forfamily picnics, and winding scenic trails that showcase the area’s natural beauty.

“Camp McAllen has quickly become one of our community’s favorite outdoor escapes,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos. November’s clear weather makes it one of the best times of the year to enjoy nature-based activities. Camp McAllen embodies the spirit of spending time together by offering families the perfect place to hike, paddle, play and explore, rightin their own backyard. “From sunrise and sunset views to family trail walks, this park represents exactly what McAllen Shines is all about, providing spaces that uplift, inspire, and bring people together,” said City Manager Isaac “Ike” J. Tawil.

Outdoor recreation is more popular than ever, with nearly 60% of Americans aged 6 and older now visiting parks, trails, andwilderness areas. Families, especially young people are leading this shift, venturing outside in record numbers.
