Effective immediately, Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr. has signed and declared Cameron County an area of disaster in response to the imminent threat of widespread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from the Border Security Disaster.

On May 31, 2021, the State of Texas issued a disaster proclamation certifying under section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code that the surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border posed an imminent threat of disaster for a number of Texas Counties, Cameron County has hereby determined that extraordinary measures must be taken for the protection of life, health, and property.

This Border Security Disaster is in effect immediately after its issuance for a period of seven days and will continue once renewed by the Commissioners’ Court of Cameron County.
