TBC Members Honor Service of Outgoing Chairman Pete Saenz

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – The Texas Border Coalition (TBC)
During the coalition’s annual meeting in South Padre Island, Chairman Treviño appointed C. LeRoy Cavazos-Reyna, senior manager of Public Affairs and Communications for Coca Cola Southwest Beverages, to serve as vice chairman. Members scheduled the election of a chair-elect for the coalition’s next meeting on March 11-12, 2020, in San Antonio.
“It is my great honor and privilege to serve as TBC chairman and I want to thank my fellow executive committee members for entrusting me with this responsibility,” Treviño said. “TBC’s mission is to work to make legislative recommendations that help border communities grow and prosper, and I look forward to guiding the organization in its continued pursuit of that mission. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Pete Saenz for his outstanding service and leadership, and I look forward to working with LeRoy as he steps into his expanded leadership role.”
“The work that TBC does requires strong relationships with local, state and federal partners and a firm resolve to succeed in bringing attention to the education and workforce, health care, border security, economic development and transportation needs of the region,” said Cavazos-Reyna, a native of Mission. “I’m humbled and honored to serve in this role as we navigate the issues that impact the Texas-Mexico border and make recommendations to the Texas Legislature and Congress that will help our communities flourish.”
Since 1998, TBC has been the collective voice of border communities on issues affecting Texas-Mexico border region. TBC members are committed to working to develop innovative policies and legislation at the national, state, and local levels.
“It was my pleasure to serve as TBC chairman during the past two years,” Saenz said. “I’m delighted that the executive committee has elected Eddie Treviño to serve as chairman. He is a strong champion for border communities, and I Iook forward to working with him as we continue to develop innovative policies and legislation that improve the lives of our citizens along the border.”
TBC’s executive committee is comprised of Laredo Mayor Pete Seanz; Brewster County Judge Eleazar Cano; Del Rio Mayor Bruno “Ralphy” Lozano; Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey Cantu; McAllen Mayor Jim Darling; Mission Mayor Armando O’Caña; Pharr Mayor Amos Hernandez; Port Isabel Mayor J.J. Zamora; Presidio Mayor John Ferguson; South Padre Island Mayor Patrick McNulty; J.D. Salinas, III, of AT&T; Sergio Contreras of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership; Ben Petty, Sr., of TaxFree Shopping; Weslaco Mayor David Suarez; and Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra.
The chairmen of TBC’s various policy committees are Carolyn Petty, economic development; Dr. Hector F. Gonzalez, healthcare; Monica Weisberg-Stewart, immigration and border security; Cynthia Garza Reyes, transportation; and Michael E. Gonzalez, education and workforce development.
