The Texas General Land Office (GLO) hosted its Rio Grande Valley Coastal Check Presentation on Tuesday, February 24. During the event, several checks were distributed, including three awards totaling $2.32 million for Cameron County to support ongoing park improvements and environmental initiatives. Cameron County appreciates the continued support and strong partnership with the Texas GLO and Commissioner Dawn Buckingham.
The awarded funds come through the Coastal Management Program (CMP) and the Coastal Erosion Planning & Response Act (CEPRA) and will support the following projects:
Beach Nourishment for Isla Blanca and Andy Bowie Areas
• (CEPRA: $1 million from GLO funds)
Bejarano-McFarland Park Living Shoreline Project
• (CMP: $151,000 from GLO; $100,000 County match)
Beach and Dune Monitoring Program
• (CEPRA: $270,000 from GLO; RESTORE: $800,000)
“I appreciate the funding for multiple Cameron County projects,” said County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. “This support allows Cameron County to continue advancing important environmental and park initiatives. We are proud that our coastline is being recognized at the statewide level for its tremendous potential as we continue to build a beautiful coastal county not only for our residents, but for visitors from across Texas and beyond.”
