McAllen– The 2016 McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by La Plaza Mall, is looking for the young and young at heart to be a part of the tradition of making dreams come true for everyone at this year’s magical celebration. This year’s parade theme is Entertainment on Parade. Volunteers are being sought for every aspect of the illuminated parade.
Volunteer tasks include balloon handlers, parade marshals, parade ambassadors as well as stage managers for the Christmas in the Park celebration. Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer should visit volunteersotx.org. Volunteers must be 18 and older and a background check is required.
Balloon handler training will be held Friday, Dec. 2 at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium at 6 p.m. Handlers will work with a team to carry the giant cold-air helium inflatable balloons down the parade route.
The parade, to be held on Saturday, Dec. 3 will feature more than 50 vibrant lighted floats, 36 larger than life inflatable character balloons, 13 bands and a celebrity filled line-up. Dallas Cowboy’s superstar Ezekiel Elliot will serve as parade grand marshal, and teammates Cole Beasley and Darius Jackson will each ride on a float as well.
Christmas in the Park will be held at McAllen Municipal Park on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday Dec. 3 and will feature live entertainment, a candlelight possda, carnival, Santa Claus and festival food.
