The Brownsville Independent School District (Brownsville ISD) announces today that on May 20, 2021, Governor Greg Abbott issued an Executive Order that will make face masking optional in public schools beginning on Saturday, June 5, 2021.
Governor Abbott’s Executive Order will not require our students, staff, parents, and visitors to wear a face mask in our Brownsville ISD campuses and buildings. Our district continues to advocate for the safety of all our students, staff, parents, and visitors and we encourage everyone to use masks inside our campuses and buildings beginning on June 5, 2021.
Brownsville ISD will continue with other Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) measures such as social distancing, frequent use of hand sanitizers or hand washing. We will also continue cleaning and disinfecting all of our facilities on a regular basis.
We are having graduations beginning June 10, 2021, and summer school on June 14, 2021, and these events will be taking place after the Governor’s Executive Order becomes effective so, we encourage everyone to wear face masks for everyone’s safety. To continue with our safety guidelines, we also encourage everyone that is 12 years or older to receive their COVID-19 vaccines as soon as possible.
The district will continue to monitor new guidelines and act accordingly with the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and with state officials as those guidelines continue to evolve. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. We are committed to keep all of our facilities and campuses as safe as possible for our students, staff, parents, and visitors.
