Brownsville Hosts SpaceX Post Launch Coffee Talk

BROWNSVILLE, TX – The City of Brownsville’s Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) & Office of Space Commerce partnered with SpaceX to host a coffee talk and informational seminar to mark SpaceX’s second test flight of its giant Starship rocket and Super Heavy booster. The event, hosted on December 12, 2023, highlighted the monumental step in space exploration and showcased the vibrant partnership between SpaceX, the City of Brownsville, and the South Texas region.

Those in attendance included more than 90 community and business representatives, including residents, business owners, rotary club members, real estate entities, academic institutions, financial institutions, state representatives’ area offices, area elected officials, and Starbase General Manager, Kathryn Lueders, who served as the keynote speaker.

“The recent launch at Starbase made significant advances for SpaceX and continued to bring visitors to Brownsville and the South Texas region,” said John Cowen, Jr., Brownsville City Mayor. “Starship’s Raptor engines showcased the cutting-edge technology and engineering excellence being created right here in our backyard. Our community has seen a surge in business and an influx of visitors and space enthusiasts, further bolstering our regional economy.”

“The Starship launch has not only been a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance in the realm of space exploration, but has also brought positive outcomes to our region,” said Helen Ramirez, AICP, Brownsville City Manager. “The presence of SpaceX in Brownsville has sparked an unprecedented wave of technological enthusiasm, educational opportunities, and economic growth for our region.”

The post launch event was more than an information seminar; it was a testament to Brownsville’s commitment to progress, innovation, and community collaboration. The City continues to work toward a future filled with further achievements and partnerships.
