KINGSVILLE, Texas – During the two-week period of June 17th through June 28th, 2019, Brownsville Border Patrol Station hosted a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) combined Explorer Academy, bringing together the United States Border Patrol (USBP) and CBP Office of Field Operations (OFO). This two-week training focused on physical fitness, firearms training, CPR, basic first aid, search and rescue, building clearing, and active shooter training.
“This was not an easy academy. We challenged every one of our cadets to their limits and abilities, but they will reap the benefits many times over by the effort they put into this academy,” said Border Patrol Agent Leonardo Barrera, Fort Brown Station Explorer Lead advisor. Agent Barrera also added, “Through rain, shine, and the Texas heat, they learned not only the importance of being part of a team but also being a part of something bigger.”
The CBP Explorer Academy was designed to challenge the 49 young men and women in attendance to discover a new level of personal strength and instill an enhanced sense of motivation, and perseverance. 39 cadets successfully completed it.
