BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville Animal Regulation Care Center (BARCC) is over capacity and is asking the community to help in any way possible. The animal shelter has received more surrenders, strays, and animal control intakes. Currently, there are 126 dogs at the shelter, and 72 kennels. More than 20 dogs need to be placed in homes this week to avoid euthanasia due to insufficient space at the center.

“We are calling on residents from across the Rio Grande Valley to consider adopting a pet from our shelter this week,” said Dr. Antonio Caldwell, Deputy Director of BARCC. “We have so many wonderful dogs and cats that can be a welcoming addition to any family. To help mitigate costs for any future family, we are waving adoption fees for the first 100 dogs to find a home.”

Residents from across the Valley are invited and welcomed to visit the care center, located at 416 FM 511 in Olmito, Texas, to visit with the pets up for adoption and take one home. All pets housed at the care center are in urgent need of a loving family and home. Residents are also invited to foster a pet until they are adopted by someone.

Care center staff advise that all pets are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered, which means there is minimal to zero cost for a potential family should they choose to take a dog or cat home with them. The care center currently has dogs of all shapes, sizes, and ages.

The Brownsville Animal Regulation Care Center is open Monday – Friday, between the hours of 1:00PM and 6:00PM and Saturdays between 11AM and 5PM. They may be contacted at (956) 544-7351. Potential pet families are invited to view the care center’s residents at BTX BARCC | Olmito TX | Facebook.

BARCC staff call on the community to unite in mitigating the number of dogs and cats that are abandoned by keeping their family pets on their property, having them microchipped, and always having a collar on their pets with identification. This way no lost pets take up room at the care center and can get home faster.
