Cameron County is excited to announce fiber optic internet is now available in Bluetown. Last December, the Cameron County Commissioners Court approved a partnership agreement with VTX-1 to bridge the digital divide by expanding broadband services throughout Cameron County.
The Bluetown fiber optic project started with a groundbreaking on March 15, 2024, to begin the installation of fiber infrastructure. With the completion of this project, Bluetown residents will now be able to access affordable high-speed internet.
“Expanding broadband connectivity in our area has been a top priority of the Commissioners Court. Our partnership with VTX-1 is providing residents with the necessary broadband connectivity they need for education, remote work and telemedicine. We look forward to continuing our efforts to get more of our residents connected,” stated Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr.
Commissioner Gus Ruiz, Precinct 4 stated, “We want to thank VTX-1 for this partnership with Cameron County. This partnership shall ensure that we close the digital divide gap in our rural communities and shall improve the quality of life for our constituents.”
Additional fiber optic projects are currently in progress. San Pedro, Lozano and Isla Blanca fiber optic projects will be coming online in 2025.
VTX-1 wireless service is currently available in Santa Maria, La Feria, Lagos (San Benito), Santa Rosa and Bayview. Wireless towers in the Port of Harlingen and Arroyo City are currently in progress with wireless service becoming available in 2025.
Residents can sign up for service online at www.vtx1.net or by calling 844-438-8891.
