Brenda Garza, representing CLAAP RGV, was recognized during the Women with Purpose celebration for her work in fostering personal development and mental wellness in the Rio Grande Valley.
Garza was introduced as part of a group of partner organization representatives by Raquel Mahe, who invited participants “to briefly share the support they offer and how they contribute to the well-being of our community” before calling each name, including Garza.
She was selected for her leadership in creating a community-based book club that encourages reflection, dialogue, and self-improvement. During her remarks, Garza explained that CLAAP RGV provides “a safe space for reflection by exchanging opinions and experiences” centered on the themes explored in their readings.
Garza said the organization also supports members through discussions on topics such as mental health, self-esteem, and personal growth. “We are here to serve the community… to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and to get in touch with their emotions,” she stated.
She noted that CLAAP RGV hosts a “Circle of Sharing” specifically for women and offers free participation, including virtual access for those unable to attend in person. The initiative also promotes reading habits and active listening as tools for self-development.
Among the organizers was Roberta Garza through Mujeres Arriba RGV as part of its seventh annual celebration commemorating International Women’s Month, highlighting the contributions of women across the region.
Garza’s recognition reflects her efforts to create supportive environments where individuals can explore personal growth, strengthen emotional awareness, and build meaningful community connections.
