EDINBURG, Texas — U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector continue to disrupt smuggling attempts on rural roads and highways.

Yesterday morning, RGV agents working along U.S. Highway 88 near San Manuel, Texas, attempted a traffic stop on a Hyundai Accent. The driver of the Accent refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit came to an end when the driver abruptly stopped and several subjects were seen fleeing into the brush.  The driver and passenger of the vehicle were arrested without further incident.  A search of the immediate area resulted in the apprehension of three illegal aliens.

Hours later, Rio Grande City agents responded to suspected criminal activity near Los Barreras, Texas.  As agents arrived, they observed multiple subjects attempting to load into a nearby vehicle.  Agents attempted to make contact with the vehicle, however the subjects quickly abandoned the vehicle and absconded into the brush.  A search of the immediate area led to the apprehension of one suspect.

Yesterday evening, Falfurrias agents working at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint referred a white van to secondary inspection after a K9 alerted to the cargo area.  Agents discovered three illegal aliens concealed inside underneath large bundles of used clothes.  Furthermore, the rear doors of the van had a lock making it impossible for the illegal aliens to escape in the event of an emergency.

One additional smuggling case occurred over the weekend in which a total of four illegal aliens were discovered.

All subjects are being processed accordingly.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
