EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agent’s disrupted four narcotic smuggling attempts over the weekend.
On Saturday, Weslaco agents responded to a call from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious male subject near Pharr, Texas. Agents responded and discovered six bundles of marijuana weighing over 139 pounds worth an estimated $111K. A further search for the subject yielded negative results.
A short while later, Rio Grande City agents responded to a report of several subjects running away from a pickup truck with bundles of narcotics near Roma, Texas. As agents approached, the vehicle traveled north in an attempt to avoid apprehension. Agents activated their emergency lights and the vehicle failed to yield. The driver continued traveling for a short amount of time, then came to an abrupt stop and the driver ran from the vehicle. After a brief pursuit, the driver was apprehended along with three bundles of marijuana weighing over 159 pounds worth an estimated $127K.
That same evening, Fort Brown agents observed three subjects carrying bundles of narcotics near Brownsville, Texas. Agents seized three bundles of marijuana weighing over 130 pounds, worth an estimated $104K, and apprehended the three Mexican nationals.
On Sunday, Rio Grande City agents responded to a report of a group of men carrying narcotics towards a truck near Garciasville, Texas. Agents observed a truck make an abrupt U-turn and proceed back towards the Rio Grande. At the river, multiple subjects were seen removing the bundles of narcotics from the truck and loading them onto a raft. Agents seized the abandoned truck and one bundle of marijuana worth an estimated $9K.
