EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents seized more than 1,800 pounds of marijuana in a span of four days.
On Saturday, March 6, 2021, agents assigned to the Fort Brown Border Patrol Station responded to suspected illegal activity near Brownsville, Texas. As agents arrived, they observed a Dodge sedan departing the area. When agents attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and sped off. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned on the side of the road. A search of the immediate area led to the discovery of five bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighed approximately 72 pounds and has a value of $58K.
Yesterday morning, Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents working near Los Alvarez, Texas, encountered several shoe prints heading away from the Rio Grande. Suspecting an illegal entry had occurred, agents followed the shoe prints and observed several subjects carrying large bundles of narcotics. As agents attempted to make contact with the subjects, they dropped the bundles and absconded into the thick brush. Agents seized 237 pounds of marijuana worth more than $190K. A search of the area for the smugglers yielded negative results.
Last night, RGV agents observed smugglers loading a vehicle with suspected narcotics near the Rio Grande. Agents followed the vehicle to a residence in Garceno, Texas. Agents approached the location along with the Texas Department of Public Safety and spoke to the homeowner. After the homeowner consented to a search of the property, agents and troopers discovered 1,564 pounds of marijuana worth more than $1.2M dollars.
Border Patrol processed the cases accordingly.
