Border Patrol seizes nearly $685K worth of Marijuana

EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents disrupted six separate narcotic smuggling attempts and seized over 850 pounds of marijuana.

Wednesday, Rio Grande City agents working near La Rosita, Texas, observed several subject with bundles of narcotics walking north of the Rio Grande. As agents responded, the smugglers abandoned the narcotics and fled to Mexico. A search of the area resulted in the seizure of three bundles of marijuana weighing over 270 pounds, worth an estimated $218K.

This morning, Rio Grande Valley Sector agents patrolling near La Casita, Texas, observed shoe prints of several subjects walking north from the Rio Grande. Agents followed the prints and located the group as they jumped into the river and swam back to Mexico. An additional search of the area revealed three bundles of marijuana weighing over 175 pounds worth an estimated $140K.

Additionally, agents stopped four other smuggling attempts in the past two days resulting in the seizure of over 400 pounds of marijuana with an estimated value of $326K.
