EDINBURG, Texas ̶̶ Rio Grande Valley Sector recognized several Border Patrol agents and a Brownsville Police Officer for their outstanding efforts.

On Wednesday, Rio Grande Valley Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Austin Skero proudly awarded the United States Border Patrol (USBP) Commendation Award and the USBP Achievement Award to deserving recipients. The awards recognize individuals and units for successful enforcement/support actions that go beyond expected daily duties or a single accomplishment that has had a major effect on the performance of the Border Patrol’s mission.

Additionally, Chief Skero and Jose F. Castro, Patrol Agent in Charge of the Fort Brown Station awarded SBPA’s Robert Martinez, Luis E. Garza, BPA Javier J. Adriano Jr., and Brownville Police Officer Cesar Encinia the USBP Achievement Award for their roles in rescuing a two-year-old child who was kidnapped by a human smuggler.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
