EDINBURG, Texas – The Harlingen Border Patrol Station hosted a graduation to recognize the achievement of 26 Border Patrol Explorers from Post 967. The response was overwhelming with an unprecedented number of community members attending, showing their support.

“The Border Patrol Explorer Program is a youth development program centered on five areas – career opportunities, leadership experience, life skills, service learning, and character education,” said Special Operation Supervisor Victor Cardenas. “The main purpose is to educate and involve Rio Grande Valley’s youth in police operations and to interest them in a future career in law enforcement.”

U.S. Border Patrol agents also participated in more than 30 Career Day events in the month of May throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Border Patrol agents regularly participate in them to inform students about the importance of staying in school and obtaining a good education while highlighting the career opportunities of becoming a Border Patrol Agent.
