EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents disrupted four human smuggling cases resulting in the arrest of 84 illegal aliens.

On Wednesday, McAllen Border Patrol agents responded to suspected illegal activity near Mission, Texas. As agents approached the area, they observed a Chevrolet Camaro leaving the area with what appeared to be several subjects inside. Agents stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver and front seat passenger. Both subjects identified themselves as United States Citizens. Upon further investigation, a total of seven subjects were found in the back seat, all illegally present in the United States. It was later revealed, the front passenger had recently tested positive for COVID-19. No one in the vehicle was wearing personal protective equipment of any kind.

Later that day, RGV Border Patrol agents and the Rio Grande City Police Department responded to a Rio Grande City residence suspected of being a stash house. Upon arrival, they discovered a total of 28 people confined inside a small trailer home. The living conditions inside the residence were deplorable. Agents found trash piled up inside and people were using old pizza boxes as matting to sleep on. Agents determined that all 28 subjects were illegally present in the United States. The subjects claimed to be from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Ecuador. Furthermore, an unaccompanied Mexican juvenile was also discovered among the group.

Agents activated their vehicle’s emergency lights in an effort to stop the vehicle, which failed to yield.  A short time later, agents advised the vehicle had bailed out near Mi Ranchita Drive and La Grange Road west of Rio Grande City.  A search of the area led to the apprehension of five subjects.

Additionally, RGV Sector Border Patrol agents discovered 44 subjects harbored in an additional stash house.

Border Patrol processed all subjects accordingly.
