PHARR, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Sector’s Morale Welfare and Recreation Association help raise funds and awareness for the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley.
On Friday, the Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch presented the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley with a check for $1,000.00 from funds raised by the Border Patrol’s Morale Welfare and Recreation Association during the 2019 RGV Sector Chili Cook-Off Contest. The donation will provide 5,000 meals to families in need throughout the region.
“Food insecurity is an issue for many individuals, children, and families in our community,” said Ron Meijerink, Chief Executive Officer, Food Bank RGV. “We are very grateful to the U.S. Border Patrol and its donation that will help provide food to those in need and very grateful for the work they do on the daily basis to keep the community safe.”
The Food Bank in the RGV distributes millions of pounds of food and grocery products each year through its networked hunger-relief programs. As of now, the Food Bank feeds up to 54,000 families in the Rio Grande Valley.
