EDINBURG, Texas – Over the Weekend, Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector Border Patrol agents disrupted a series of human smuggling attempts resulting in the arrest of 44 subjects.
Friday morning, McAllen Border Patrol agents working near Los Ebanos, Texas, observed several subjects emerge from the brush near the Rio Grande and load into a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). A vehicle stopped was initiated and agents identified the driver as a U.S. citizen. In the rear of the SUV, agents discovered eight individuals attempting to conceal themselves. The eight subjects were determined to be illegally present in the United States.
Moments later, McAllen agents in Los Ebanos, Texas, witnessed a similar smuggling incident. Agents again observed several subjects emerge from the brush and run into an awaiting pickup truck. A vehicle stop was initiated and agents discovered a U.S. citizen transporting three illegal aliens.
Friday evening, Agents working along Highway 281 conducted a vehicle stop near San Manuel, Texas. As the vehicle pulled over, multiple subjects exited the vehicle in an attempt to abscond into the brush. Agents were able to locate and apprehend five subjects from the incident. All subjects were determined to be illegally present in the U.S.
Saturday afternoon, McAllen agents observed several individuals run from the brush to an unoccupied SUV in Mission, Texas. Agents encountered four subjects inside the vehicle. Two additional subjects were found underneath the SUV. Agents determined all subjects were illegally present in the U.S.
RGV agents disrupted an additional four smuggling cases resulting in the apprehension of 19 subjects.
Border Patrol processed all cases and subjects accordingly.
Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
