FALFURRIAS, Texas â€“ U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped a cocaine load at the immigration checkpoint.

On Saturday, agents working at the Falfurrias Immigration Checkpoint boarded a commercial passenger bus to conduct immigration inspections on all occupants. During the inspection, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the luggage compartment. While investigating, agents located an unclaimed duffel bag filled with 16 bundles of cocaine. The narcotics weighed over 50 pounds and have an estimated value over $1.7M. Agents turned the drugs over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Across the Southwest Border, Border Patrol has experienced an increase in the amount of cocaine seized between the ports of entry when compared to last fiscal year.
