EDINBURG, Texas – Vehicle stops by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers and La Joya Police Department officers led to the disruption of two human smuggling attempts in the Rio Grande Valley.
DPS troopers requested assistance from the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station with a vehicle pursuit of a Ford F-150 near Premont, Texas. The pursuit came to an end when the driver ultimately veered off the road and crashed into a ranch fence. Several subjects were observed absconding into the nearby brush. As troopers and agents searched the area, the F-150 caught fire. The local fire department was requested and responded to extinguish the fire. Hours later, La Joya Police Department officers requested assistance from the McAllen Border Patrol Station with a vehicle bailout in La Joya, Texas. Agents apprehended four migrants in that event. The driver was later located and arrested at a nearby gas station. Police officers seized the vehicle and arrested the driver. Agents took custody of the four migrants.
All subjects are being processed accordingly.
