GRANJENO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol Agent Emergency Medical Technicians (BPA/EMTs) along with the Mission and Weslaco Fire Department are put to the test during the mass migration influx.
On Thursday, McAllen Border Patrol agents working near Granjeno, Texas, detained a group of over 200 illegal aliens near the Anzalduas bridge. As agents screened the group for transportation, they noticed a female in distress. Agents advised a BPA/EMT of the situation who determined that she was exhibiting signs of dehydration. The BPA/EMT provided medical assistance and requested an ambulance to transport the female to Mission Regional Medical Center.
Shortly thereafter, the same BPA/EMT assessed and treated a second illegal alien in the group who fainted. While providing the subject with medical attention, several other illegal aliens in the group complained of heat related injuries. The BPA/EMT immediately requested additional EMT assets to prevent further incidents.
Border Patrol requested assistance from the Mission and Weslaco Fire Departments due to the overwhelming number of illegal aliens complaining of heat related illnesses. Weslaco Fire Department responded with an ambulance bus (AmBus) and assisted in triaging, screening, and evaluating all the illegal aliens. Medical personnel rotated over 100 people through the AmBus for cooling and evaluation, with five people transported by ambulance to Mission Regional Medical Center.
The Border Patrol is processing the subjects accordingly.
