EDINBURG, Texas– Border Patrol agents interdict two narcotic smuggling attempts which resulted in the seizure of almost 800 pounds of marijuana.
Monday afternoon, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City station responded to a call about suspicious activity near the La Casita community. Agents observed a vehicle heading north into a nearby neighborhood. Upon arrival, agents discovered an abandoned vehicle loaded with 14 bundles of Marijuana weighing approximately 575 pound with an estimated value of $460K. A subject approaching the residence was questioned and admitted that he was involved in the failed smuggling attempt. The subject, vehicles, and marijuana were turned over to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Yesterday morning, Fort Brown agents working near the river observed multiple subjects carrying bundles of suspected narcotics. Agents responded to the area and apprehended one subject and seized six bundles later identified as containing marijuana. The bundles weighed approximately 203 pounds and have a street value of over $162K. Agents transported the subject and the bundles to the Fort Brown Border Patrol Station for processing. The subject apprehended was a 16-year-old Mexican national. The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the subject was processed accordingly.
