LA ROSITA, Texas â€“ On Monday evening, a vehicle pursuit led to the seizure of multiple bundles of marijuana.

Last night, Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents working near La Rositas, Texas, observed a gray Kia sedan approach the riverbank of the Rio Grande. Shortly after arriving, the vehicle was observed departing the area. Agents followed, as they suspected the Kia was involved in some form of smuggling. The driver of the Kia performed a U-turn upon spotting approaching Border Patrol units. The Kia was seen driving south on Los Barreras Road, past the last portions of pavement.

Responding agents determined that the vehicle missed a turn on the road and went through a barbed wire fence falling approximately 20 feet into the brush. Inside the vehicle agents found 414 pounds of Marijuana worth approximately $332K. The driver of the vehicle absconded into the brush and was not apprehended. The drugs will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
