Bonds earns WAC Track and Field Athlete of the week honors

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Tuesday that sophomore Samaria Bonds of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s track & field team is a WAC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts at Texas A&M’s Aggie Invitational on Saturday.

Bonds won the women’s shot put with a program-record throw of 15.98 meters, the 20thbest mark in the nation and best in the WAC this season. She also placed second in the weight throw with a distance of 18.95 meters, which ranks 56th in the nation and first in the WAC.

UTRGV, which sports the No. 13 ranked women’s team and No. 20 ranked men’s team in the South Central Region, is back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Houston Invitational.
