The sustainable benefits of planting trees around your city are more important than you might think.
Trees provide the oxygen we need to breathe, which is essential for our existence.
The trees around your house and city, are the wellbeing of just about every living being on our planet. That is why Bob and Janet Vackar participated in this traditional Arbor Day on April 29, 2020.
Together with the City of Edinburg, they planted beautiful trees at the Janet Ogden Vackar Sports Complex Park located on 3405 North Doolittle Rd., northeast of Edinburg.
What a great day to celebrate and confirm that planting trees is the essence of breathing.
According to the story, the first American Arbor Day was originated by J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska City, Nebraska, at an annual meeting of the Nebraska State board of agriculture held in Lincoln. On April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted in Nebraska.
Birdsey Grant Northrop of Connecticut was responsible for globalizing the idea when he visited Japan in 1883 and delivered his Arbor Day and Village Improvement message. In that same year, the American Forestry Association made Northrop the Chairman of the committee to campaign for Arbor Day nationwide. He also brought his enthusiasm for Arbor Day to Australia, Canada, and Europe.
The brilliant idea of planting trees here and around the world is being celebrated for more than a century. Maybe next April you should get more involved, or even better, don’t event wait for the date to arrive, just plant trees.
