EL PASO, Texas – Two suspected alien smugglers have been arrested in Cd. Juarez as a result of a binational collaboration to bring criminals to justice on Wednesday.
On July 7, Mexican authorities received information from the U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector Targeted Intelligence Division and Foreign Operations Branch regarding two known alien smugglers operating near the border. On July 9, authorities from Mexico were able to locate and arrest those individuals who claimed affiliation to the “La Empresa” criminal organization, seizing three loaded 9mm handguns and a 44 Magnum revolver, 9mm ammunition and $2,000.00 U.S. dollars.
This binational effort involved Targeted Intelligence Division Units from the El Paso Station, El Paso Sector, El Paso Sector Foreign Operations Branch agents, and personnel and detectives from the Chihuahua State Secretariat of Public Safety (Intelligence and Police Analysis Unit and General Staff [Detective] Unit). These two individuals remain incarcerated in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua and are being prosecuted for illegal possession of weapons and bribery.
“Our binational cooperation with our Government of Mexico counterparts is yielding results that will make both sides of shared border community safer. Sharing information back and forth with Mexican law enforcement partners is an important part of helping dismantle criminal organizations operating in our region,” said El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar. “We continue to invite our community on both sides of the border to report any criminal activity to help us apprehend these dangerous organized crime members.”
