The Board of Directors of BBVA approved the succession plan for the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Onur Genç, who is currently the CEO of BBVA Compass and U.S. country manager for BBVA, will replace Carlos Torres Vila as Group CEO. The succession is expected to take place on Dec. 31, 2018.
With his international background, Genç is proof that BBVA continues to focus on its designation as a global financial institution. His success in both the U.S. and Turkey portends the continued success of the BBVA Group under the leadership of Carlos Torres Vila as Chairman and Genç as CEO.
This news follows the September announcement that BBVA is moving forward with its succession process, and Genç represents the next logical step in the process.
Genc’s successor in the U.S. will be announced in an orderly manner, and Genç will continue to supervise the U.S. operations until such time. The banking institution expects the momentum BBVA Compass has will continue unabated due to its strong foundation and structure.
