Two VMHS Band students achieved the highest honor for becoming members in the Texas All-State Band. Grecia Mayorga earned 2nd chair for flute in the 5A All-State Band and Sarah Martínez-Salinas also earned 5A All-State status for earning 3rd chair trumpet. VMHS band students competed against others from the Rio Grande Valley all the way to San Antonio this past Saturday, January 8th at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. This competition was the TMEA Area Band Auditions, which is the final round of auditions to become 5A Texas All-State Musicians – the highest honor a Texas high school musician can achieve.

Four VMHS Band students advanced to this highly competitive audition and two students achieved the highest honor of becoming Texas All-State Band members! The VMHS Band program is immensely proud of our students for representing our campus at such a high level, and for once again maintaining the tradition of VMHS Band students repressing VMHS and Mission CISD at the state level. This is Grecia Mayorga’s first time achieving the status of All-State Band Member, and Sarah Martínez-Salinas’ second time earning this distinction!
