This Stuff Matters!

CNBC regularly ranks the top states for business  ̶  and the winner was…not Texas! The Lone Star State came in fourth after Virginia, North Carolina, and Utah, all of which compete aggressively and effectively for desirable corporate locations. While fourth is not terrible, it is worse than we normally fare in such listings. More importantly, the details were eerily disturbing. CNBC evaluates 85 areas within 10 broad categories.

$353K Worth of Drugs Seized

Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector (RGV) agents interdicted two drug smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of more than 440 pounds of marijuana.

Abbott Files Brief in Support of 2nd Amendment Rights

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today filed an amicus brief in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, an important Second Amendment case in the U.S. Supreme Court. At issue is whether New York’s denial of licenses to carry handguns for self-defense violates the Second Amendment. 

Cuellar Secures 100 New Immigration Judges to Address Immigration Court Backlog

Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) secured $891,190,000 for the hiring of 100 new immigration judges with support staff through the Executive Office for Immigration Review. The funding will help reduce the backlog of immigration cases at the southern border and is a $157,190,000 increase from last year.

New Instructional Approach for Early Childhood Education

In addition to expanding its Pre-K3 program to remove state eligibility requirements, the Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is also planning to implement a groundbreaking new approach to early childhood education in the Rio Grande Valley.

H-E-B Supports Covid-19 Relief Efforts

The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley has received a generous donation of $25,000 from H-E-B to help support the food bank as they continue feed families affected by Covid-19. The growing demand for services continues as many families are still feeling the effects of the health and financial crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Labor Agreements with Fire and Police Unions Approved

The City of Pharr has successfully negotiated collective bargaining contracts with both Fire and Police Unions. After a two-year carryover of existing contracts, the negotiations concluded within a day of each other and resulted in 3-year contracts with each entity, incremental pay increase, and organizational modifications.

Shareese Hicks Hired As New Track & Field And Cross Country Head Coach

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vice President and Director of Athletics, Chasse Conque announced on Tuesday the hiring of Shareese Hicks, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Memphis, as the new head coach of the Vaqueros track & field and cross country programs.
