Gov. Abbott Issues Executive Order Restricting Transportation of Migrants Due to COVID-19

Governor Greg Abbott today issued an Executive Order restricting ground transportation of migrants who pose a risk of carrying COVID-19 into Texas communities. The Executive Order also directed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to stop any vehicle upon reasonable suspicion of such violation and reroute such vehicles back to its point of origin or a port of entry. DPS also has the authority to impound a vehicle that violates the Executive Order.

With a $1 million gift from The Cullen Trust for Health Care, the University of Houston College of Medicine will open a low-cost direct primary care clinic on the campus of Memorial Herman Southwest Hospital, the first in a planned network of clinics aimed at increasing access to care for those without health insurance.

City of McAllen Hosts Christmas in July Press Conference

The City of McAllen announced that the 2021 presentation of the McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by H-E-B and powered by Bert Ogden & Fiesta Dealerships, will return to a live, in-person presentation this year, on Saturday, December 4, 2021.  The McAllen Holiday Parade will be celebrating Christmas in McAllen, the Official South Pole of Texas.

Over 20,000 Immigrants Arrive in 1 week; 87 Border Agents Test Positive for COVID-19

partment of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to prioritize the health and safety of border agents and border communities amidst a COVID-19 surge in the Rio Grande Valley. The COVID-19 surge has resulted in the shutdown of Catholic Charities, nearly 70 border agents testing positive for COVID-19 in the RGV sector, 17 border agents testing positive for COVID-19 in the Laredo sector, and 233 hospital beds occupied in the local area. Additionally, 27% of the unaccompanied children deported this week tested positive for COVID-19 with Brownsville experiencing a 15% positivity rate. Border Patrol is also sending immigrants directly to the McAllen COVID-19 testing site.
