An International Grandmaster chess champion who has traveled the world attending tournaments, Bartek Macieja has twice been the chess champion of Poland and once held the title of chess champion of Europe. He has played against almost all of the world’s top players – including seven world champions.
Originally from Warsaw Poland, Macieja holds a Master of Science in physics from the University of Warsaw. He began playing chess when he was five and a half; his first tournament was at the age of seven.
Macieja is new to being a full-time team coach. Now having a family, he felt a change of lifestyle was in order, saying he was delighted to learn of the opening at UTB and very pleased to be invited to become the coach.
Macieja says his goal at UTB is to build strong, competitive team that will qualify for the Final Four of Chess this year and achieve the Collegiate Championship next year.
“Everybody here is really passionate about chess. Oh, it’s a very good place for me – together we can build something really good.’”
