Are you ready to take on a challenge that will shape you into a leader and set you on a path of lifelong service? Congresswoman Monica de la Cruz calls on young, dedicated individuals from her district to consider applying for nominations to our nation’s prestigious U.S. Service Academies. “If you are passionate about leadership, committed to your academics, and devoted to physical fitness, this is your opportunity to serve our country meaningfully,” says Congresswoman de la Cruz.

Attending a U.S. Service Academy is a profound honor that brings both prestige and a commitment to serve. As Congresswoman de la Cruz explains, “The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation to serve our nation as a commissioned officer for at least five years upon graduation.” This opportunity allows young leaders to develop their skills, serve their country, and impact the world.

Every year, Congresswoman de la Cruz and her colleagues in Congress have the unique privilege of nominating outstanding candidates for four of the five U.S. Service Academies:

• U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, MD

• U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, CO

• U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Point, NY

“These institutions represent the pinnacle of military education, demanding excellence in academics, physical readiness, and a steadfast dedication to leadership,” de la Cruz adds. She notes that the fifth academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) in New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

What Does the Nomination Process Entail?

Congresswoman de la Cruz’s office is dedicated to identifying the most qualified and committed candidates for nomination. “Our nomination process is designed to find young people who embody the spirit of leadership, service, and dedication that our academies and military require,” she says. Each applicant undergoes a careful review led by a committee of senior enlisted non-commissioned officers and officers who assess each candidate’s qualifications and leadership potential.

“Our office can nominate up to ten candidates per available slot for each academy,” explains Congresswoman de la Cruz, allowing her to support multiple talented individuals on their journey to service. “I encourage every eligible young person in our district to consider this pathway. It’s an opportunity to grow and make a difference nationally and globally.”

Important Deadline: Applications Due Today

Our district proudly supports the next generation of military leaders, and I look forward to witnessing your accomplishments.”
