Flag football is rapidly gaining recognition across the Americas for its speed, accessibility, and power to connect communities. The City of McAllen in collaboration with the Americas Flag Football Championship Texas is calling upon youth and adult teams from the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and beyond for a competition on August 1–2, 2026. The two-day event will feature high-level competition, teamwork, and cultural celebration.

Headlined by Neighborhood Sports NFL Flag, one of the nation’s premier youth flag football organizations, the championships are supported by I’m Her Athletics, Elite 7v7 Pro Series, BFA Flag Football, and International Sports Network.
“This championship is the first of its kind to be held in the region and it will bring together athletes and families from across the nation, Mexico and Puerto Rico, and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos. “McAllen offers a warm welcome, a safe and vibrant environment, and a sense of home for everyone who comes to compete and celebrate flag football.”

The championship aims to offer more than just competition. Tournament organizers expect more than 50 teams to participate emphasize that this event celebrates cultural exchange, elite play, and gives young athletes a world-class platform to represent their communities on an international stage.
Flag football’s growth is evident across the Americas, bringing together players of all ages and backgrounds. “As someone who has built youth flag football programs in both Texas and Puerto Rico, this tournament is deeply personal to me,” said Hector Santiago, Founder of Neighborhood Sports & Puerto Rico Youth Sports.
“I’ve seen firsthand how this sport connects communities across cultures and countries. Partnering with the City of McAllen and such an outstanding group of organizations allows us to create something truly special, a championship that brings together teams from across the Americas in a City that naturally serves as a bridge between nations. Flag football represents opportunity, unity, and growth, and we believe McAllen is the perfect place to showcase that vision.
The community is encouraged to come out and support these rising athletes. Fans of all ages can witness top-level competition, cheer on local and international teams, and enjoy a weekend full of excitement and achievement.
